The conversation about open protocols and interoperability continues to mature. This week at IGF 2020 a group of panelists including Michał Woźniak, Ian Brown, Szymielewicz Katarzyna, Annika Linck, and Maryant Fernandez Perez discussed what policy around social network communication would look like. I was pleased that my video on content moderation in decentralized networks got a shoutout from Michal.
The conversation on interoperability continued on the Fediverse. Two documents that emerged from that discussion:
- Interoperability as a Tool for Competition Regulation – by Ian Brown
- A Technical and Policy Analysis of Interoperable Internet Messaging – by Vittorio Bertola
It makes me think of Innovation + Equality by Joshua Gans & Andrew Leigh, who argue policies should encourage competition by diminishing barriers to entry.
